Due to changes in required security settings on zoom, we have had to change login links for our weekly events! Please note that due to changes in Zoom's security settings, we have had to add passcodes to all of our meetings. If you are logging in on a computer or mobile device, the passcode for all meetings is "godislove". There are individual codes for dialing in on the phone. Please check our updated calendar for the week or the list of links on the church website. ![]()

Words and Seasons
Cut out a paper leaf (or just bring in a real one from your yard once they start falling!) and write your word on it. Think about how the word has traveled with you through all these seasons and how it can move forward through more seasons with you. If you aren't a quick writer and didn't get a chance to write down the reflection questions this week, here they are!
If you need help accessing any of our classes, please let us know and we'll help you get connected! We’ve got some great Christian Education options this fall! All are welcome. Please pass on this info to your friends and family near and far! Everyone is encouraged to bring a friend. ![]() Someday School: “One Day” Mondays, 6 PM, beginning Sept. 14. On Mondays at 6PM, Mark Shannon will be leading a discussion about the book “One Day”. This is a non-fiction “secular” book. Discussions will center around where God can be seen in the pages of a book that was written without God as the subject. You can buy the book online here: https://www.amazon.com/One-Day-Extraordinary-Ordinary-America/dp/0399166661/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=one+day&qid=1598987960&sr=8-7 If you need help purchasing the book, let the church office know and we’ll make sure to get you a copy. “On New Year’s Day 2013, two-time Pulitzer Prize–winner Gene Weingarten asked three strangers to, literally, pluck a day, month, and year from a hat. That day—chosen completely at random—turned out to be Sunday, December 28, 1986, by any conventional measure a most ordinary day. Weingarten spent the next six years proving that there is no such thing. That Sunday between Christmas and New Year’s turned out to be filled with comedy, tragedy, implausible irony, cosmic comeuppances, kindness, cruelty, heroism, cowardice, genius, idiocy, prejudice, selflessness, coincidence, and startling moments of human connection, along with evocative foreshadowing of momentous events yet to come. Lives were lost. Lives were saved. Lives were altered in overwhelming ways. Many of these events never made it into the news; they were private dramas in the lives of private people. They were utterly compelling. One Day asks and answers the question of whether there is even such a thing as “ordinary” when we are talking about how we all lurch and stumble our way through the daily, daunting challenge of being human.” ![]() The Way of Discernment Wednesdays, 7PM, beginning Sept. 16 On Wednesday evenings, we will focus on the spiritual practice of discernment as seen in the book “The Way of Discernment.” Discernment is the practice of listening for God’s direction in our lives. While we encourage everyone to have a copy of the book, it will not be necessary. You can buy the book online here: https://www.amazon.com/Way-Discernment-Spiritual-Practices-Decision/dp/0664228704/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1W0XMXX6L8G1V&dchild=1&keywords=the+way+of+discernment+by+elizabeth+liebert&qid=1598988280&sprefix=the+way+of+disc%2Caps%2C151&sr=8-3 If you need help purchasing the book, let the church office know and we’ll make sure to get you a copy. “We all make decisions constantly--some with careful reflection, some without much thought. But what if we understood these decisions, minor as well as major, as matters of faithful Christian living? In this helpful and encouraging book, Elizabeth Liebert introduces the practice of discernment and guides readers through the process of faithful decision making. Following the way of discernment means becoming increasingly able to notice where God is at work in the world and in one's own life--and becoming increasingly generous with one's own life in response. After briefly exploring the Christian tradition of discernment, Liebert then turns to practical steps and exercises that will help readers as they seek God's call in the midst of their decisions, allowing readers to internalize some of these practices and incorporate them into their daily lives.” ![]() Bible Study: Genesis Thursdays at 2, beginning September 17 Our traditional Bible study will be focussing on Genesis this fall. We recommend having a copy of the “Genesis for Everyone” commentary as a companion to the study, but it is not required. All you need is your Bible and a healthy dose of curiosity. You can buy the commentary (a two part series) online here: https://www.amazon.com/Genesis-Everyone-Part-Chapters-Testament/dp/0664233740/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3AT2Y4DWRBTCR&dchild=1&keywords=genesis+for+everyone&qid=1598988948&sprefix=genesis+for+everyone%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-2 https://www.amazon.com/Genesis-Everyone-Part-Chapters-Testament/dp/0664233759/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3AT2Y4DWRBTCR&dchild=1&keywords=genesis+for+everyone&qid=1598988948&sprefix=genesis+for+everyone%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-1 If you need help purchasing the book, let the church office know and we’ll make sure to get you a copy. |
